Find out more about Emmanuel Church!

Who we are

We are a group of mainstream Christians who seek to follow the teachings of the Bible. We enjoy meeting together to encourage one another in our Christian lives and want to share our faith with others.

About six years ago a small group started to meet together in a home in Eggborough. We soon outgrew the home and for two years met in Whitley and  Eggborough Community Primary School which was, of course, only available on weekends. Having a desire to serve our community, in August 2009 we moved into our current premises in Ergon House, Weeland Road. This enables us to hold other activities during the week, such as Coffee Morning and Parent & Toddler Group,  as well as meeting for worship on Sundays. It may not look like a traditional church but the first Christians owned no premises. Hence, the ‘church’ was, and still is, basically all about PEOPLE who are followers of Jesus.

What we believe

Quite simply we believe that the Bible is God’s message to mankind and contains all we need to know about Him and how we can enjoy a relationship with Him. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news in the world because it deals with mankind’s biggest problem –that of our rebellion against God. Despite our rebellion and the consequent mess we have made of our lives and the world God has given us, the Bible assures us of God’s love for us. “For God so loved the world that he gave His One and Only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” Because Jesus took on himself the punishment for all our wrongdoing as he died on the cross, God can offer us forgiveness for our past, a new start and purpose for living and the promise of eternal life with Him in heaven when we die. What message could be better or more relevant in a world where people are looking for an answer to their guilt, loneliness and despair?
